Gentoo penguin in Antarctica’s Neko Harbour.

The gentoo penguin is the third-largest penguin species, following the emperor and king penguins. Gentoos, on the other hand, can grow to be nearly three feet tall. And they shine underwater, not on land. Gentoo penguins have sleek, streamlined bodies and powerful flippers that can propel them up to 22 miles per hour. No other diving bird can swim as fast as this one. When pursuing fish or other prey, they can stay underwater for up to seven minutes and dive to depths of over 650 feet.

Gentoos can be found all along Antarctica’s coast and coastal islands. Their ‘bonnets’ are white.
