Ekom Nkam waterfall in Melong, Cameroon
Cameroon is sometimes referred to as ‘Africa in miniature because within its borders are all the major climates and ecosystems of the continent: mountains, desert, rain forest, savannas and ocean coastland. The coastal belt along the Atlantic Ocean contains some of the wettest areas on the planet. This is the superb science Littoral Region and it’s where our image was captured. Near the community of Melong, the powerful Ekom waterfall thunders over a clifftop, surrounded by the incredibly green and dense rainforest so common to the area. The volcanic soils around here are rich and fertile, so it’s also a prime spot for coffee and palm oil plantations.
